Terrace Level Build-Out Begins
The church building was constructed in 2006, with a full, unfinished basement below the sanctuary and offices, and with future plans to finish the lower level as funds became available. For the past two years, the church has been raising money to finish the basement, and the Build-Out Team has been developing final plans. The plans have been divided into three phases.
In the fall of 2008, the membership voted to begin Phase I of the build-out. This phase includes framing the basement for classrooms, a fellowship room,
bathrooms and a kitchen. Rough-in work for plumbing and electrical equipment is included in this phase. An elevator will be installed for handicap access to the basement. Studio D Associates was chosen as the builder, and a contract was signed for $178,790.
Actual construction work began on Phase I of the build-out in
mid-January 2009.

The electrical rough in work will begin soon. Room lighting in the Fellowship Room and Classrooms will be a combination of recessed can lights, recessed fluorescent lights, and decorative chandeliers, all controlled by dimmer switches.
Completion of the kitchen will be done during Phase III of the build out.
The Church Building Fund
Unity Church in Charlottesville has already collected sufficient funds through the generous donations of members and friends to complete Phase I of the Terrace Level Build-Out. However, additional money must be raised to complete the total project.
